This position will be responsible for the logistics and planning of the Annual Atlanta BeltLine Bike Tour, a partnered ride in collaboration with the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership.

About the ride

The Annual Atlanta BeltLine Bike Tour will be an escorted ride on open streets of the current and future Atlanta BeltLine project, to raise awareness, funds, and interest. The ride will take place Saturday, June 14 in conjunction with the Atlanta Cycling Festival and is a continuation of an event founded by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition (ABC) in 2008.

Position Description: Ride Director

The Ride Director will be responsible for the design and implementation of ride planning. Duties will include route and rest stop planning, all aspects of ride logistics, recruitment and coordination of volunteers, oversight of budget, and other duties as assigned.

The Ride Director will be the lead staff person for the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition on the Annual Atlanta BeltLine Bike Tour, and work closely with the ABC Events Manager and Executive Director, who will provide day-to-day supervision of the position.

Breakdown of responsibilities in each area with estimated percentage of time, list of tasks and skills/knowledge required to perform tasks follows:

Ride Organizer/event manager – 80%

1. Arrange and coordinate all aspects of the ride in coordination. This includes but is not limited to: development of the annual ride plan; design and document route; liaison with rest stop hosts / locations, design and planning of each rest stop; day-of event registration; coordination of event logistics (vendors, bicycle shops, information booth workers, public safety support, maps, etc.); coordinate volunteers, including position design, recruitment, training and recognition.

2. Ability to effectively organize efforts of many people, experience in planning and managing special events. Ability to act quickly and creatively when faced with new problems. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required. Ability to develop processes, schedules and systems to provide a first class ride.  Knowledge of bicycling and bicycle safety. Ability to read and interpret maps, coordinate information, and work with local officials. Familiarity with the city of Atlanta and the Atlanta BeltLine. Ability to work with local government departments and neighborhoods.

3. Develop annual budget (approved by ABC Executive Director). Track expenses, bill payment, purchase of services and materials through competitive bids (toilets, security, etc.).  Demonstrated successful experience of purchasing procedures, budgeting and financial management.

Communications – 20%

1. Provide input to Atlanta BeltLine Partnership marketing agency on promotion, providing input on maintenance of web pages and online registration, online presence, and ride publicity.

2. Write/update volunteer guidelines and content for newsletter, web. Provide written updates to supervisory staff.

3. Proven ability as an effective oral and written communicator, ability to work collaboratively in a team when needed and independently when needed, experience with bicycle events, ability to organize material in a clear and concise manner.

Payment structure: 15% of rider registration fees (minimum $1,500)
