On May 29, we launched a fundraising campaign to raise $200,000 to help counteract the harm caused by recent federal executive orders threatening our movement.
Our funding is under attack. Our values are under attack. Environmental justice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Sustainability. Civil rights. Helping our neighbors. All under attack.
The campaign was seeded with $20,050 raised at the Blinkie Awards during our paddle raise. And, with your support, we were able to raise an additional $8,285 before the end of our fiscal year on June 30. You stood by us in our fight for safe, accessible, and equitable streets, and we can’t thank you enough.
While we didn’t reach our goal (more about this below), every donation helped to close the gap and spoke volumes about the work and initiatives you value.
As an organization that’s been around for 30+ years, we’ve seen many ups and downs and weathered countless storms. Widespread funding cuts and delays in the nonprofit sector weren’t part of our plan last fiscal year, but we quickly pivoted our fundraising priorities and streamlined expenses to ensure our work continued without interruption.
Through the hard work and dedication of our staff, board members, and volunteers over the past three decades and through our evolution from the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign to the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, and now Propel ATL, we’ve created a strong foundation for financial stability.
Because of this, we had a cushion of reserves built up over time, which meant that falling short of our goal did not mean the end of the organization. This would not have been possible without your continued support.
And things are looking up. We just received our payout from the IRS for the Employee Retention Credit that we applied for two years ago. We’re also working on long-term grant partnerships to sustainably advance our mission to transform Atlanta’s streets into safe, inclusive, and thriving spaces for people to ride, walk, and roll.
A new fiscal year has begun, but our fight is far from over. The need for safer streets in Atlanta is greater than ever. Let’s get to work.
