“I’ve only ever driven past Peachtree Street…I’ve never walked down the middle of it.”
That’s a quote from one person who finally got to see what streets for people was all about this Sunday, as three miles of Atlanta’s signature thoroughfare closed to cars so that people could walk, roll, bike, skate, and scoot!

This month, Streets Alive featured an expo that allowed people to test out e-bikes from local retailers and gear up for Atlanta’s e-bike rebate program, whose application for the lottery kicks off on June 16. Missed the expo? Don’t worry! Streets Alive will hold two more e-bike expos on June 16 and July 28. Can’t wait that long? Then sign up to attend Propel ATL’s e-bike mixer at Atlantucky Brewing on Wednesday, May 29.
And we were happy to welcome Atlanta Streets Alive’s May sponsor, AARP Georgia, which works for communities that are livable for everyone, no matter their age or stage of life.
As AARP Georgia’s Kay Sibetta notes, an important piece of that is transportation.
“Atlanta’s transportation policies have favored cars over other ways of getting around, and now it’s great to see this mindset changing. AARP Georgia was excited to be the sponsor at Atlanta Streets Alive because it gave us the unique opportunity to engage our members, older adults, and their families on why we advocate for diverse transportation options to help improve the health outcomes for people of all ages.” Thanks, AARP Georgia!
