The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition is looking for an intern interested in applying transportation planning knowledge to community organizing for bicycle network improvements.
The intern will report directly to the Executive Director, and will also work with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition (ABC) staff.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist in developing advocacy campaigns for bike infrastructure
- Update Atlanta Bicycle Coalition's bicycle suitability map using GIS and design software
- Support Advocacy Bootcamp trainings
- Attend public meetings on behalf of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition upon request of the Executive Director
- Provide visuals for potential bike infrastructure projects and campaigns
Qualifications:
- Students applying for this internship should be studying City Planning (transportation planning specializations preferred), but Transportation Engineering students will also be considered
- Applicants must have a solid understanding or current coursework in GIS/mapping
- Applicants should be comfortable with public speaking in front of small groups
- Must be extremely organized and detail oriented.
- Must have excellent time management skills and flexibility.
- Must be able to work independently, as well as take direction.
- Must have access to design and GIS software.
- Interest in bicycling or urban planning preferred.
Duration: Summer semester 2015 - indefinite
Hours: 5-10 hours per week. May work remotely, but expected to be in the office at least one day a week.
Compensation: $100/month transportation stipend. Intern may be eligible for college credit.
