The Problem

Promises Made. Projects Delayed.

In 2022, Atlanta voters approved a major infrastructure program to fix sidewalks, build protected bike and scooter lanes, repave streets, and add safer crossings. Three years later, the most recent audit shows significant delays, with many projects still stuck in the earliest phases of development.

Some projects have even moved backward in the process when new work was added, and progress remains uneven across council districts, leaving many high-need neighborhoods waiting the longest.

Atlanta residents deserve timely, transparent delivery of the safety improvements they were promised.

What the Audit Shows

  • 168 out of 202 projects have started, but one-third remain in planning or design.

  • ATLDOT continues to be the slowest department, with many sidewalk and safe-streets projects lagging behind.

  • 113 projects advanced phases since last year, but progress remains inconsistent across districts.

  • The public dashboard is now live — a major transparency win — but the audit notes ongoing data accuracy and verification issues.

Why These Findings Matter

  • Slow progress puts projects at risk of higher costs from inflation and delays.

  • Delays mean neighborhoods — especially high-need areas — wait longer for safe crossings, sidewalks, and street repairs.

  • The audit confirms what Atlantans have been feeling: it takes far too long to deliver basic transportation improvements.
