Atlanta Families for Safe Streets Is Gathering Again — Join Us April 29

Every day in Atlanta, someone walking, biking, taking transit, or simply crossing the street, doesn’t make it home.

Behind every crash is a person, a family, and a story that doesn’t end when the news cycle moves on.

For too long, many families in Atlanta have had to carry that loss, trauma, and confusion on their own.

That’s why we’re bringing Atlanta Families for Safe Streets (AFSS) back together.

What is Atlanta Families for Safe Streets?

AFSS is a survivor- and family-led community for those impacted by traffic violence. We come together for two reasons. First, to support, ensuring no one has to navigate grief, trauma, or the aftermath of a crash alone, and second, to advocate, turning our experiences into action that saves lives and prevents future harm.

This work is grounded in the belief that while every story is different, no loss is acceptable, and change is possible when families and survivors come together.

Across the country, Families for Safe Streets chapters have helped lead real change. Here in Atlanta, we are building that same foundation together.

Our First In-Person Meeting

We’re inviting people directly impacted by traffic violence — family members and survivors — to join us for our first in-person gathering:

📅 Date: April 29
🕖 Time: 7:00–8:30 PM
📍 Location: TBD

This meeting marks the beginning of a new chapter for FSS in Atlanta — one rooted in community, support, and the shared commitment to creating safer streets so no other family has to experience this kind of loss.

What to Expect

This first meeting is about connection, not pressure.

  • A welcoming, supportive space
  • A chance to meet others who understand what you’ve experienced
  • Time to share or simply listen
  • A conversation about what this community can be moving forward

You do not need to have the right words.
You do not need to be ready to share your story.
You only need to show up as you are.

Why Now

In recent months, families in Atlanta have stepped forward to call for safer streets, sharing their stories, honoring loved ones, and asking the City to follow through on its commitments.

At a recent gathering on Peachtree Street, family members stood alongside AFSS steering committee members, Propel ATL, and City Councilmembers to call for a safer crossing at a location where lives have been lost. The moment made clear what this work is about: ensuring that no other family has to experience the same tragedy.

Help Us Reach Others

We know many people who could benefit from this space may not be connected yet. If you or someone you know has been affected by traffic violence, we invite you to share this meeting, reach out, and help us grow this community.

No family should have to carry this alone.
And together, we can build a city where no one has to.
