Honor Brittany Glover with a street name & safer street design

Brittany Glover graduated from flight attendant school in August 2022. Three weeks later, she was crossing Hollowell Parkway near Finley Street when a motorist struck and killed her before speeding away. Yesterday, her mother called on Atlanta City Council to rename Finley Street in honor of her life, cut tragically short.

Ms. Valerie has traveled to Atlanta from her home state many times since her daughter was killed, and is a compelling moral voice for changes to our streets.

Honoring Brittany's life is this way will be meaningful for her family and is the right thing to do. But it is literally the least we can do.

We're calling on City Council to pass this legislation, but to not stop there.

After years of community members asking for a safer street design, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) designed a safety reconfiguration of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. Their contractor is halfway through with that project. The next step is installing a signalized pedestrian crossing – known as a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon, or PHB – between Cedar Ave and Center Hill Ave.

We've asked GDOT to extend that safety project so it connects with downtown Atlanta, creating a consistently safe corridor.

We've also requested a pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) at Finley Street / Brittany Glover Drive, where Brittany's life was taken.
