We are advocating an upgrade to the painted bike lane with physical barriers separating cars from people on bikes, to make it safer and more attractive to bicycle Ponce de Leon in time for the BeltLine ramp to connect the corridor with the Eastside Trail.

June 14, 2016 - UPDATE

Please be extra careful using the bike lane on Ponce de Leon in front of Ponce City MarketGeorgia Department of Transportation contractors have installed a concrete barrier (meant to prevent left turns onto Ponce de Leon) IN the bike lane.

We've reached out to Georgia Department of Transportation, who promised prompt action. Meanwhile, share this with others who bike there and do your best to navigate this dangerous site safely. #‎protectponce.

Thank you to our ABC members for bring this to our immediate attention! (Video from Robert Butera, ABC Member)

In 2015, we asked for the addition of a barrier between the bike lane and general travel lanes, to make the bike lane safer and more useful! In 2016 we were notified of a plan to add a concrete median to a section of the bike lane, to prevent drivers from making left turns across traffic. In May, one of the islands was placed in the bike lane, creating a dangerous hazard for people on bikes. Our members reported this and we put out a call for action to speed up its removal, resulting in some media coverage like this article in the AJC
