Staff and Board Updates

The day-to-day work of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition is propelled by staff and board members who spend countless hours advocating for you at community meetings, public events, in the media, on advisory committees, and at City Hall. We want to share some important staff changes with you along with some exciting job and internship opportunities as we move into the second half of 2019.

ABC Staff

As a community organization, we do a LOT of community engagement. At the beginning of this year, our 2018 community engagement contractor Sagirah Jones joined us as a full-time staffer. Since then, she’s continued to work closely with Atlanta Streets Alive neighborhoods to bring even more life to open streets. Being full-time has allowed her to join our staff Campaigns team, where she’s helped think about what community engagement could look like for the ATL DOT, worked with elected officials on infrastructure and policy issues, and coordinated the SW Atlanta Streets Alive community-led route selection process and steering committee. Please say hi the next time you see her at a community meeting!

Speaking of Atlanta Streets Alive, we officially named Heather Luyk the Program Manager of this key initiative! Previously our Events Manager, this move allows Heather to focus fully on opening streets for people. Congratulate her at our longest Atlanta Streets Alive ever on June 9th!

As we continue to grow and develop our staff, we saw a need for a Deputy Director to help us grow strategically and connect all the dots between different aspects of our work. Haydée Santana has stepped into this role, a first for your Atlanta Bicycle Coalition! Her devotion to the team and to our mission is inspiring us all to up our game.

Finally, we’re saying goodbye to a valued member of our team, Bennett Foster. Ben joined us in 2014 to work on membership, then transitioned to become our Campaigns & Policy Manager. He’s led you ably through campaigns to fund, build, and protect safe and complete streets. But don’t fret, he’s only changing one letter - from ABC he’ll head to the ARC, the Atlanta Regional Commission, where he’ll work on Georgia Commute Options, Georgia Commute Schools, and even the Atlanta Bike Challenge. You’ll probably hear from him about Biketober this fall! Ben is also becoming a sustaining member of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition as he transitions - thanks for all your hard work and dedication, Ben.

Join our team! We’re hiring a Communications & Marketing Manager (job posting) and will soon be hiring for a Campaigns role.

We also are starting to look for interns for this fall. Stay tuned to www.atlantabike.org/jobs for details!
