Biketober 2024

Every year thousands of Atlantans participate in Biketober, a friendly bike challenge presented by Georgia Commute Options.

From Georgia Commute Options:

Last year, more than 2,600 residents and 350 Atlanta-area companies participated in Biketober. In total, participants biked nearly 340,000 miles and saved nearly 34,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Riders can participate individually or form a team with friends or coworkers. Cyclists compete by logging their miles and earning points for every mile they ride, every day they ride, and for every person they encourage to join. The more points they earn, the more chances they have to win prizes. This year’s grand prize is an electric bike courtesy of Outback Bikes.

Everyone who participates in Biketober will also be making communities better for biking by rating their routes. The Love to Ride app, used to record bike rides, allows riders to give feedback on how safe and comfortable they feel when riding their bikes on different streets. The anonymous feedback is combined with other participants’ ratings to show which parts of the community are in greatest need of infrastructure improvements.

In addition to promoting healthier communities, Biketober encourages everyone to experience the joy of bicycling anytime, anywhere. The more physically active employees are, the healthier and happier they are – fostering a friendlier work environment, reducing healthcare spending, and keeping them engaged and at work.
