Atlanta Bicycle Coalition rebrands to Propel ATL

The new name reflects the organization’s expanded mission, follows PEDS merger last spring

ATLANTA (May 20, 2022) - One of the Southeast’s leading organizations dedicated to sustainable transportation advocacy is now Propel ATL

The new name reflects the nonprofit’s expanded mission that was adopted in 2019 — to reclaim Atlanta’s streets as safe, inclusive and thriving spaces for people to ride, walk, and roll.

Propel ATL champions people-centered advocacy and programs to make Atlanta a place where residents and visitors move safely, easily, and sustainably — whether walking, using a wheelchair, biking, riding transit, scooting, skating, or using another sustainable mode. The organization’s commitment to social and racial justice, service to community, and accountability direct its daily operations, propelling holistic transportation and mobility policies that result in equitable outcomes.

“For nearly 30 years, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition advocated to make biking safe, equitable and appealing,” says Rebecca Serna, executive director of Propel ATL. “This name conveys our goals and guiding principles, and we’re excited to create a unified voice to make Atlanta’s streets measurably safer for residents and visitors.”

The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition unveiled the rebrand during the organization’s annual Blinkie Awards on May 19.

The new name and visual identity were developed by a committee of community and board members.

“Propel is positive and action-oriented,” explains Serna. “It illustrates both the actions of people moving themselves throughout our city and their collective efforts to make Atlanta more accessible by all kinds of sustainable transportation.”

This news follows the merger between the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and Pedestrians Educating Drivers on Safety (PEDS) in June 2021.
