Our Team
Meet the people behind our work and see the passion, dedication, and expertise that drive our mission forward.
Jason Tatum, Board Chair
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I will never forget the day that I finally worked up the courage to try riding my bike to work. I was terrified – of the traffic, of the miles, of the hills. I had thought about the idea for so long until one day I said, “I should just try it once.” I never looked back.
That chance I took led to meeting the team that ran a small non-profit called the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition. I had no idea what kind of world would be opened up to me from that initial meeting.
Through the years since that first encounter, there have been countless changes and so much evolution. The mission and brand expanded to PropelATL. New staff joined the team, and I had the honor of joining the board and eventually leading as its Chair.
I am constantly learning more about all of the big and little ways that this organization creates safer streets in our city by way of their tireless advocacy, organizing, and action. There are miles of bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly intersections. The transit hub that is Five Points remains open instead of being shut down and cutting off a crucial transit point. Turning right on red is becoming more rare. All while constantly holding our public officials accountable for Atlanta’s viability as a place where it’s safe for all to move.
There’s the great quote by Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has". If there is a living embodiment of this ideal, then I believe the Propel ATL team is it. Cheers to them and the work of 2025, and further to what is to come.
Sincerely,
Jason Tatum
