A Morningside resident and mother of four whose children attend Morningside Elementary School has launched a Change.org petition to support the Monroe Road Diet.  "Right now, cars routinely approach 50mph along that stretch, weaving dangerously, and there is no buffer at all between those cars and the sidewalk in many places. Or, conversely, they are piled up behind left-turning cars, causing blockages and/or accidents," the petition states. Read more

85% of respondents to the live poll conducted at the Renew Atlanta Monroe Drive/Boulevard public meeting said that bicycle and pedestrian safety should be prioritized in this project. DeKalb Avenue is broken. You don’t have nicknames like “the suicide lane,” on streets that work for people. It needs to be fixed so it will be safe for everyone. Efficiency seems to be at the heart of Bill Torpy's argument against making DeKalb Avenue safe for people to walk and bike (“A bike lane on DeKalb Avenue? How?” Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dec. 19), so I’ll get right to the point: DeKalb Avenue today is “efficient” only if you define efficiency as speeding. Read more

It is extremely impressive how Vancouver has advocated to become a livable City through many factions - citizen, non-profit and municipal, while taking a 360 degree approach to tackle challenges. While attending the Pro Bike Pro Walk Pro Place conference this past September, I had the opportunity to personally see the fruit of this arduous labor by riding an Amtrak bus through the suburbs, walking the City core, biking along the Seawall, riding the mass transit, and taking my very first sea bus. It was a hilly terrain, crowded with many modes hustling and bustling in a rapidly growing city, but due to increased enforcement, it was an awesomely pleasant experience as a tourist.  Read more
